What .22 pistol do you like?
No gun arsenal is complete without a 22. I like Browning's Buckmark, with a 5.5" bull barrel.
Guns like this are where you really learn how to shoot a firearm. Put 1000 rounds through one of these and your wallet won't feel it. -PMan |
Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
I do love my Ruger Mark III.

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Ruger Mark II, target grade 6" bbl.
|
Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Mark II is very accurate, but with the crappy mag release and insane cleaning ritual I really don't care for it.
I love my wife's walther P22 and buckmark camper. Much more fun to shoot (and clean), even if not quite as accurate. |

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Ruger MkII or Browning Buckmark for an auto
Dan Wesson 22 or Smith K frame for a revolver |
Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
I LOVE my Mark II.
Utterly reliable with every kind of cheapo ammo I've tried. Accurate as all get out, by far my most accurate pistol. Cleaning, what's that. I cleaned mine once when I got it (it was abused). Now a coule of thousand rounds of dirty, junky ammo later, it's running like a sewing machine. I can see how re assembly could be a pain, but once you figure out what's going on in there, it's easy as pie. I've pulled mine down several times to fool with the trigger, etc. |
Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Ruger Single Six all the way. Although Ive contemplated buying a Ruger Mark 3

You might check around on the internet forums about some problems with the MKIII "chambered round indicator" causing feed problems. If that is the case, I am sure it can be removed or at least disabled... http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/ |

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Anyone shot the Browning Buckmark Countour Lite or one with a similar grip style? How did you like it? Wondering if it is worth the extra $ over a standard Camper version...

- Polished both sides of the frame (as well as the mag well) - Polished both sides of the slide (as well as slide contact points) - Reversed the sear spring - Drilled and tapped slide / installed thumbscrew cocking "ears" - Drilled and tapped trigger / installed over-travel screw - Removed gold lacquer from trigger - Installed B-square scope mount - Installed BSA holo sight - Ambi walnut target grips from Kelley Arms - Replaced grip screws with stainless hex screws PS - I really debated getting a Hunter, or building a Camper. I chose the latter just for the fun of customizing my gun. |
Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Ruger single six. :D
There isn't a heck of a lot on it that could break...and it comes with a .22wmr cylinder for marginally greater power and 10x the cost. :) |

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
If you can find a Hi-standard simi..
you can not go wrong. There was a post here abt 9 shots?? What range?? Most pistole or guns are rated at 25 yards.. and group,s are how close the shots are group,ed together. The best (bench rest ) shooters try to put all shots thru the same hole.. that can be called a bug hole..!! Any way the best I have ever owned was the one above. Note ..not all 22 ammo is the same ,,there is some out there, that can take a bad gun and turn it in to an o.k . one. But if you have a good gun ,nail driver. With respect! Live long And Prosper.! Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
When you have the best why mess with the rest ?

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Now don't be confusing "range" with "accuracy"! :D
Years ago on while a pistol team my Leupold 2X scoped Hi Standard semi-auto with 6" bull barrel could put 5 shots in a ragged single hole off a bench at 25 yards,.......way more accuracy than most folks would ever need. Sure with a 22LR pistol the 100 yard shots are the exception,........but even in hunting your lunch, a 50 yard shot is more than justified on small game with an accurate scoped up version like this. (don't try this with a Ruger single six sans scope!) BTW,.....last i knew most NRA pistol shooters were using scopes on all their pistols in competition back about 15 years. Quote:

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
What about a .22 in a revolver format? The only one I can find these days is by taurus. Any thoughts. I'm also using my wife as an excuse to get one but it's really so I can blow through 500 rounds and not feel it in the pocketbook. Any thoughts?

Re: What .22 pistol do you like?
Codger, I had a Taurus stainless 22 mag before I got my olde H&R 922. The H&R will out shoot it.[both with 4" barrels] About 4" at 25 yards is I think about the best I can shoot a pistol to be honest, I don't know how much better that gun would do in a machine rest. It likes Winchester copper plated the best.
The Taurus sure was a LOT prettyer! |
